Our clients were asked to fill out a survey on the STEPS program, the educational component. The clients wanted more choices and more self directed study. They wanted to decide with the case manager what was best for them instead of attending ‘canned’ classes designed for everyone. We listened and redesigned STEPS to put more power in the client’s hands, yet with monitoring. This is another building block toward independence.
Each adult completes 24 assignments a year (2 a month) and attends at least four community night sessions.

SUCCESS STEP STORY
A father was working at a fast food chain while his family lived in a car. They came to Harford Family House. He got a better job, then a raise. Now he is looking into forklift training and transitioning to a stable/permanent place.
